DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Fire Inspection Bureau duties and responsibilities include:

  • The inspection of all buildings and structures on an annual basis, with the exception of owner occupied one and two family dwellings.

  • The investigation of all fire incidents that result in significant property damage, or where injury or death has occurred.

  • The enforcement of all township fire ordinances.

  • The inspection of one and two family dwellings prior to sale, lease, or rent and the issuance of a Certificate of Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Compliance.

  • The investigation of all Fire Code Complaints.

  • The issuance of fire safety permits to businesses.

  • The review of all new construction plans and permit applications for compliance with the Uniform Construction Code.

  • Conducts fire safety lectures to businesses, corporations, senior citizens groups and other civic agencies.

All businesses in the community require an annual fire safety inspection, and businesses are classified in two categories:

  • Life Hazard Uses (LHU), as defined by the Uniform Fire Code.

  • Non-Life Hazard Uses

All Life Hazard Uses pay an annual registration fee to the State Division of Fire Safety. All Non-Life Hazard Uses are charged a local registration fee based on the buildings square footage.
