Municipal Budget of the Township of Wayne

Each year, Wayne Township prepares an annual budget that is approved by the Township Council and the State of New Jersey.

This process starts when municipal department heads submit their budget proposals for review by the Business Administrator and the Finance Department.  After review and revision, the budget is introduced to the Township Council for approval.  If approved by the Council, the budget is then submitted to the Division of Local Government Services in Trenton for its review and approval.

The budget must also be advertised in a local newspaper and a public hearing is held for township residents.  Prior to final adoption, the budget may be amended upon state approval and an additional public hearing held if necessary. Specific dates for the public hearings change from year-to-year, and are posted in our Council Agendas.

The final version of the budget is then adopted upon a majority vote of the full membership of the Township Council.
