Flood Watch

The National Weather Service's River Predictions continue to call for a rise in water levels in the Passaic Basin through Monday, March 15. Moderate flooding is predicted beginning early Sunday with levels reaching approximately 3' above bank full by late Monday. Residents in low lying areas are advised to move vehicles to higher ground and to monitor river levels closely. Roadway flooding is expected to begin over night Saturday and barricades are being positioned for that eventuality.

Residents along the Pompton and Passaic Rivers are advised that water levels are predicted to reach near or at bank full during daylight hours Monday, December 28,2009 before slowly receding over the 48 hrs following. Residents in low lying areas of Wayne Township should monitor river levels closely and be prepared to move vehicles to higher ground.

Wayne Township's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 3rd at Town Hall (475 Valley Road) starting at 6:30 PM. There will be music presented by the Wayne Hills High School Chamber Choir, Santa, and Mrs. Claus will make their grand appearance. Candy canes will be distributed to all children. Coffee and hot chocolate will be served by Starbucks. TD Bank will be distributing elf hats to all children. The Wayne Junior Women's Club will be selling cookies and brownies at a nominal fee. We hope to see you there!

The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office offers Senior Citizen Photo ID cards for identification purposes. The card includes an individual’s photograph, personal information, emergency contact and pertinent medical information.

Cards are issued the Last Thursday of every month between 10:30 am and noon at the Sheriff’s Office, 435 Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne, NJ 07470, unless the date falls on a holiday, in which case IDs will be issued the week before.

The Wayne Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse recognizes the powerful impact of youth peer groups and the pressure it places on our kids. Children feel a sense of support and reinforcement when their peer group gives approval. Now, through Wayne Parents Care, parents and adults can achieve that same feeling of support and encouragement when they come together to develop a Safe Homes Parents Network.

This is a program that empowers parents. It gives them a forum to meet and talk in a casual, non threatening atmosphere, discussing common concerns and possible solutions. Through Safe Homes, parents can obtain information about their children’s social scene and develop agreed upon guidelines and consequences.

Labor Day Weekend - Pool Schedule

The James W. Roe Pool will be open on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (August 31- September 2nd). The pool will be closed on Thursday and Friday (September 3rd and 4th).
Roe pool will reopen on Labor Day weekend - Saturday, Sunday and Monday, September 5th - 7th. The no guest policy will be in effect.

Research conducted by FEMA on disaster preparedness shows that many people who believe themselves prepared for disasters often are not as prepared as they think. Our nation's emergency managers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, and other emergency responders do an incredible job of keeping us safe, but they can't do it alone. We must all embrace our individual responsibility to be prepared, as well as assist our family and friends. Wayne has posted a new Community Preparedness Toolkit helps citizens create a service project to prepare their family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues for disasters in their local community.

The Township Council would like to welcome Nadine Bello (R) as the newest member of the 2009 Township Council, filling the vacated seat of Paul Margiotta (R). Councilwoman Bello, is a resident of Wayne for 15 Years and has served on the Board of Adjustment since 2001 and as Chairwoman for 2 years, and has been a District Representative for Ward 6, District 5, since 2004. Ms Bello received a Bachelors Degree in Education and is a certified New Jersey School Teacher, and has a Masters Degree in Environmental Science from Montclair State University. Nadine Bello is the President of New Wave Consultants, Inc., a professional environmental compliance and safety organization.

The day begins with opening ceremonies and an exercise warm-up. Groups will participate in six different events. Upon completion of all events, team scores will be tallied. Lunch, entertainment, line dance lessons and a massage therapist will be provided. Medals will be awarded at the conclusion of the day.

Pet Recovery Clinic May 5, 12 &19, 2009

The Wayne Animal Shelter is sponsoring a Low Cost Pet Recovery Clinic Tuesday evenings between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The clinic includes Microchipping your pet for identification, registration, 24/7 access to a vet, as well as pet injury insurance. This form of permanent pet identification ensures the safe return of a lost pet when found by scanning for the microchip.

Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza that regularly cause outbreaks of influenza among pigs. Swine flu viruses do not normally infect humans, however, human infections with swine flu do occur, and cases of human-to-human spread of swine flu viruses has been documented.
